Hello All,
I made up this unit to allow me to run the starter motor from under the hood and from either side, (an issue with us butterfly hood guys, not so much for you alligator hood guys.)
It is a simple unit made from a block of hardwood, an old door bell button, (single pole/normal off), a length of electrical cord cut off an old appliance and a pair of alligator clips from the hardware store.
You simply attach one clip to the small solenoid screw that comes from the starter button/switch and the other to the hot cable coming from the battery into the starter.
It does not matter which you hook to where as you are completing the circuit between the two points just like you do pressing the starter button or turning the key.
Now you can place the unit on the head, fender, whatever, and press the button to run the starter. I used a wood block to house the button so it is flat/stable as well as a good insulator, (and rather robust due to my periods of clumsiness).
I just finished a check-up of compression and fuel pump pressure from the passenger side solo and it worked a treat.
I am sure the real mechanics have designated tools for this, but this one helps us shade-tree wrench pullers too.
Just another thing to help with puttering on our old cars.

Nice build. It'll save ya a few bucks to build it up from stuff around the house. Plus my favorite thing which is to make it extra durable instead of cheap plastic.

Great when you setting timing, adjusting valves, or anything when you need to turn the motor for any reason.
