Currently the forum does not have email notifications for updates to threads. As you all know, to find out if anyone has posted you need to check back on the forum.

I know in the other forums I frequent, the email notofications keep me in touch with the latest information available on the forum and any updates to threads that I have an interest in.

I think it would enhance this forum greatly to have email notifications included. It would make the exchange of information a lot more fluid. I really think this is a wonderful forum with a phenominal wealth of information to be shared. Addiing email notifications would make it that much better!!

What thoughts does anyone else have on the idea??

As long as it is OPTIONAL and NOT MANDATORY.

These type of features are always optional with the ability to toggle them on or off whenever you want.

I would like email notification of threads myself. It might help people with experience in particular areas of Packard maintenance and repair to better respond to people with problems in those areas.

I agree that it's a good idea as well, it would make keeping up a lot easier.

As long as it doesn't cost BigKev any money, or take away any more time from his Packard & Family than it sounds like a good idea.

The forum supports this option, but I turned it off in the very beginning as it created a huge amount of database overhead on the old server. I will turn it back on for now and we can see how it goes.

You will now notice at the bottom of the Forum pages there is a notification box. This box is Context Specific and will change depending if you are looking at the Forum List, Topic List, or a Topic itself. You can subscribe to different types of notifications. Things like:

New Forum Added
New Topic Added to a specific Forum
New Post added to a Topic, etc.

You must enabled Notifications in your profile for this to work. The are off by default.

Also you can manage your the notifications you are subscribed to using the Notification option off of the User Menu.

Thanks,

Where exactly do you go to enable notifications in your profile? I don't see a button or anything else to do that.

Sorry I had to turn on the visibility of that field in the profile.

If you click on "Edit Account" from the User Menu you should see these two options:

Notification Method and Default Notification Mode.

The first lets you select how you want to received Notifications. Options are Disabled, Email and PM

The second lets you select how the notifications are bundled.
