Hi, Today I met a fellow who says he has an export model produced in 1953. he does not know the model but it is a 4dr sedan. Not a Clipper or Patrician but has another Emblem and Fog lights where the parking lights normally would be and the speedometer in kilometers? .
Were specially equipped cars produced for export? He believes this one was for the Cuban market???

Sure, there were differences in export models. In 51-54 right hand drive could only be had in certain Clipper models. Export models had more expansive tool kits, in some cases lowered compression ratios (via thicker head gaskets) to compensate for generally lower octane fuel overseas. Also in some models vinyl or leather replaced fabric for upholstery. And metric gauges were available depending on destination. And no doubt more differences that I'm not familiar with,

The 51-54 parts book does identify the right-hand drive differences, and as I've browsed it I've sometimes seen other notations for export models. Take some time to browse it and let us know what you find.

Also a lot of the export models had heavy duty shocks.

And springs as well, identified in the parts book as "Canadian and Export". Also Ultramatic-equipped cars often had different springs than their standard-shift counterparts, a nuance I'd forgotten about.

Perhaps it is a Cavalier sedan, then.

The factory parts book shows export speedometers in KPH (Gr. 10.100) available for all 26th Series chassis/models.
