Randy (randy berger), if this threat will not reveal its purpose at first sight then time will make it happen. This threat tries to bring two of your favorites together:
Packards and locomotives. [picture source: www.flickr.com] Attach file: (31.95 KB)

Kevin (Kevin AZ), if this threat would have been without headline I would have voted for All aboard!
source: www.thefreeportshow.com Don (portlandon), in 2008 we learned from Dave (clipper47) the name of such Packard locos: track inspection cars. To beat a bull bar it needs a cowcatcher. Here comes another Packard interpretation of the term rail-bound: 1955 Packard body on assembly line, left side view, trunk open, no chassis or interior equipment, one worker in back seat, two African American workers at driver's door. Inscribed on photo back: Packard Motor Car Co. production line, Conner Avenue facility, 1955 Packard Clipper, fifty-fifth series Item # EB01e837 Photo courtesy of the Detroit Public Library, National Automotive History Collection and used with permission.

Interesting a railroad would pay the cost of a Packard over a lesser car for such service. Did it just happen to have a perfect size or was there some other advantage over say a comparable GM or other mfg's similar sized & probably lower cost offering.

Dave (O_D), you sly fox! As much as the pics from Don (portlandon) and Dave (32model901) your photo doubtless matches the headline. That is a way to rail a Packard! But wait, my prepared story might be able to outpace your picture library at the finishing line. To keep you a little longer in suspence I will post the today's leftover of the Packard driven train without mentioning its source but promise to make good for it soon.
