I know this is Packard Forumn but this is interesting.
They are pulling the first vette out of the abyss today.
Supposed to have 3 out by Wednesday.
Here is a link to the Live web cam.

The server is getting hit heavy this morning so mine keeps stopping and starting or just dropping off altogether.

I find this interesting myself.

Took a while to buffer but soon it popped up.

They pulled two vettes out today.
Here is the local news story.

I think they are going to pull the 63 model out next. After that they have to remove dirt to find the others.

I don't think there's a '63 in the hole. There's a black '62, though.

I watched the streaming video; the blue car seemed to have a big oil leak as they drove it out the door. May have been smarter to check it over before cranking it up.

The red car looks mostly trashed. I don't think you drop a car 30 feet and expect survival, especially a plastic car.

The other car on top (black) is probably going to be hurt severely and the cars further down in the hole may be nothing but junk.

It looks like some cars of the buried five are actually way down in the hole.

The other question is just how big this cave is and how likely other areas will sink.

Fortunatly there should be plenty of restoration parts around.

As soon as the car moved forward, you can hear several people commenting on the oil leak. That's why they shut it down right away.

Maybe I missed it but didn't see any sign of steel in the concrete around the visible edges. Not that it would have done much good but I would have thought a commercial building with a large slab on grade floor & subject to heavy loads such as automobiles would have had at a minimum some wire mesh embedded -- to minimize cracking if nothing else. Was that an old building or part of the relatively new Corvette facility?

Your right its a 62 model. I was typing from faulty memory.

Howard
I've been asking for weeks where the heck the rebar is. If there was rebar mesh in that slab it might not have collapse like it did. Even the pole barn I built last summer had to have the mesh to meet code and I am only 70 miles away from the museum.

Jim
The museum is only 20 miles from Mammoth Cave National Park.
You can bet this hole is bigger and longer then it appears. There are small caverns that can not be explored that are believed to strech for hundreds of miles.

Not knowing how deep they can scan with radar or ultrasonic, I would be afraid to do anything above ground having now had the cave-in.

I do see the rescue lads are suspended.

There is a large conspicuous absence of rebar or mesh in that floor. Doesen't seem to meet the codes I live under.

The other curiosity is how deep is the hole and how many cars are below the visible point.

The hole is estimated to be 30 to 50 feet deep.
There were 8 cars total in the hole. They pulled 2 up yesterday and I guess they got the 63 up today as I can't see it anymore.
They can't use the usual ground sonar as the device has to be placed on the surface and the surface (down in the hole)isn't safe.
They do not know if the cars are right side up or not.
One story I read last week said they were going to suck the dirt out of the hole to find them. That should be interesting. I never seen a dirt sucker before.
