We are finishing up the assembly of our 1955 Caribbean, and would like to have some photos showing how the carpet is supposed to be fitted in the front cabin. Is there a separate piece in front of the transmission tunnel? How is the binding supposed to look?

West,
I have seen 2 different patterns used in 1955 for the front. The one shown I’ll call the comb over cut. The other one is the one seen in the 56 Packards that have a crescent moon cut over the transmission tunnel. I have only seen the crescent moon cut in the original 55 Caribbean pictures I have seen. I was hoping the original blue 55 Caribbean would help in this, but nothing yet. The carpet pattern for the 55 and 56 Caribbean’s are different. The 56 front seat is the big reason. I tried getting blueprints from the PPG and the Studebaker National Museum, but they do not exist. These pictures are from what was left from a 55 400. Look at the pictures under the glove box door.
It is the crescent moon cut. packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb ... c_id=23644&order=ASC&status=&mode=0

Here are pictures of a recent EBay sale of an original red car.
I believe there are more pictures of this car on this site. Attach file: E289F5D2-DB5A-463C-96E5-106736EE9A3B.jpeg (220.10 KB) EE2EC952-841E-407E-ADD0-902BD509420D.jpeg (117.77 KB) 52BE7433-5718-4A85-B21C-6BFB593F9142.jpeg (120.76 KB)

The first photo of the red car's front carpet shows that there is a separate piece above/in-front-of the main carpet. A narrow band that runs the width of the car.

West,
Yes, that piece is on the firewall. Check the parts book, but I think it is the same for all the 55, EXCEPT for factory A/C . I believe this is a 55 firewall carpet. The driver side needs to be pressed flat and straight.

As I have said many, many times the most original unmolested 1955 Caribbean you'll ever find is the Howard Hughes/Jean Peters car... which now lives at the National Packard Museum in Warren, Ohio.
If you can't get there to take photos of this extremely low-miles Caribbean, I'm sure that the museum would be willing to help.

Have you looked at these pictures on this site.
I think Kevin got them from the Detroit public library? Attach file: E441BA4F-5FE6-472E-ADDD-599BD68ADDDA.jpeg (107.88 KB) 3BAC5DC5-1E86-4E61-9020-1DC62FF7CB70.jpeg (108.81 KB) F8FC93B7-A8DF-41E3-9A66-D24AA6679DF5.jpeg (82.63 KB)
