You-Tube, scarcely 10 years old now, is the greatest untapped facility for the any collectible hobby. I am most surprised that so many vendors and service providers, clubs , etc, especialy the big ones, have not yet used u-tube for much needed instructibles. Probably sell one hell of alot more parts if the less than tech savvy could see how to perform maintenance in a video.

Have to figure out. How to deal with rear main leaking.. might pull engine. again

V8...number again for lifters..please. .

Anyone know idle speed out of gear....


Thsnks.

Have a line on delco generator. Bearings are they all the same ....for the 56...

Lifters, Federal Mogul (Sealed Power) HT-879.

A reasonable idle speed in neutral or w/o a transmission after you're off the fast idle cam might be in the range of 575 to 600 rpm. Don't expect a smooth idle without the weight of the torque converter.

On the rear seal, maybe you trimmed the graphite cord too short? It's no fun but they can be replaced with the engine in the car.

My experience is limited to the original graphited cord type rear seal. Properly installed they are excellent and generally good for the life of the engine so I'd be reluctant to experiment with something else though that's not to say a good alternative doesn't exist. I'd be curious what Jack Vines and Ross Miller have to say on the subject of substitute rear main seals.
