The tanks would be the same and any place you can attach the wire -- frame or body -- so it has a good solid metal contact to ground will work. On the tank, any solid metal part of the tank will work. Kev mentioned the flange around the middle. He drilled a small hole -- staying well toward the outside of the flange and away from any potential place it could leak -- and attached the wire to the flange with a sheet metal screw.

If you search, how to test fuel gauge system..., you'll find several sources for testing and how to determine which component is the problem and how to repair. If you don't find the cause, you'll be tracking down suggestion after suggestion.
