For example, my three 1964 Imperials had the taper shaft and didn’t change to the flange type until 1965.

Interesting point but unimportant overall as a nice puller is not even $100 on Amazon. Oh, and the twin traction diffs in 56 can have the own issues regarding unobtanium parts. I imagine the regular 56 rear end is easy to maintain like the 55, but many of these would have had the twin traction option.
