The vibration is more noticable when the car is in neutral and gently reved on the gas peddle.

I would try rotating the TC on the flex plate first. Rebuilding the trans itself probably won;t accomplish anything as long it works good otherwise. TC mite need disassembly and repair.

One other alternative mite be to add weight to the TC/flexplate to bring it into balance. Like balancinga wheel/tire. Alot easier than trans removal.

Loose crank to flex plate bolts, loose or missing TC to flex plate bolts possible cause. In any event u'll need to determine WHAT the imballance is before disassebly. Try some weights on the TC or flex plate to balance it.

I'm assuming there is no knocking noise. But double check the harmonic balancer at the front of engine to be sure it is tite.

Funny you mention the harmonic balancer.

I had bought a NOS balancer on eBay some time back. I've already dropped it off at the shop last month. By process of tests / elimination, it has now been determined / confirmed that the issue is with the TC.

I'm going to copy / paste some of your more pertinent comments (already copied some) and pass on to the workshop this evening before I speak with them tomorrow!

Thanks again Howard for all comments and suggestions-all a great help.

Its getting late over here (UK), so am going to log off now and get ready to hit the hay!
Richard

G'day Richard,
to PackardInfo, but sorry I can't help with your query. However, I invite you to include your '56 Golden Hawk in the Packard Owner's Registry.

Richard for including your '56 Golden Hawk in the Packard Owner's Registry. I have "cleaned up" the entry because the drop-downs don't recognize the Studebaker Hawk!

Thanks for your help on that... after going back 'n' forth a few times, I wondered if you might come to the rescue!

I'll dig out vin, engine number, options, etc at a later date and add to the car's profile.... but at least the main hurdle has been vaulted... thanks for the assistance!
