i already thought about that with that rebuilt one, but it would actually still cost more then just replacing the individual parts, by about 80 bucks or so. it is a great idea if you don't want to do much work and you can just put your delco tag on the remaned unit. but money is of a serious commodity around my parts right now.

For those who are wondering why I might have suggested shying away from converting to a ball bearing C/E frame on the generator, here's my take. I'm not denying that it is an improved design, just simply pointing out that it may not be worth the expense. It would involve sourcing a new style bearing C/E housing as well as buying an armature with a bearing sized shaft. Delco at one time sold a housing kit that included this coil spring type spacer to install on the original bushing style armature. I would not use these, it really looks like a recipe for failure. The bushing style generators if taken care of should provide a long life of service. Obviously if I was sourcing a generator and one had a bushing and the other had a bearing, I would choose the bearing. But, if I was restoring a car and the original generator had a bushing style, I wouldn't hesitate to keep the original style. As always, if anyone has any questions or concerns related to starting and charging issues feel free to contact me. I'd be glad to try and help you out.
