While I'm waiting on the other kingpins to arrive and hopefully get an answer to my cap issue, I went ahead and pulled the other side apart.





It went quicker than the other side for sure. Hardest part on both side were removing the kingpin caps. Very hard to wrench them out as there nearly no void space behind them for a tool to piece and get underneath it.

Also on both sides the cotter pins holding the backing plate bolts where pretty much rusted in place.

You may have them already being the main purveyor of Steele products, but Rock Auto carries the bumpers that go on the frame bracket and stop over travel of the shock. Fit great and the price is good, delivery is fast too.
I am developing a simple fixture to set my camber/toe-in on mine. I suspect that the boys in the past got a new set of shocks not knowing to swap the bushings out to keep the camber correct. If you are interested I can send you the drawings. It is all wood and easy to make.

Got the driver side top support pin replaced. What a pain!






I also discovered that the shock was empty. So ran to Napa for some jack oil. My wife had the world's smallest funnel hiding in a baking drawer.







I'll find out in the morning if it's leaking.

Now is the time to replace the steering crank bearings if they are worn? You are more than 1/2 way there to replace them.

I found it. It's a Metro rubber part XB-18. Metro sells for $30 on their website, RockAuto $19.

There were no puddles under the shocks this morning. So I guess that's a positive sign. I think we shall see if they leak under use.

Check, Rock Auto is 'eaches', while Metro may be pairs.
