Sounds great, I think we have a plan.

Perhaps add the Series these samples cover:
"These are Material cards which can be used to match up Upholstery, Carpet, Top, and other fabric materials used on 23rd to 56th Series Packards." That way someone with a 20th Series car won't waste a lot of trying to find something that isn't there for them.

Sounds reasonable.
Is that something you can do Kev, as I've found that commas and other special characters wreak havoc in a spreadsheet when going to another file format.

I can add that on my side as a static footer. No need for that to be in the Spreadsheet.

Great!
Meanwhile, I've been working on a handful of entries where tag info was incomplete. The parts books helped fill in several holes, but there are still a few anomalies. The following materials are lacking Trim Set info, which is not specified in the parts books: 449683 (ID #11008), Top Material - 5497 452074 (ID #10922), Top Material - 2678 452538 (ID #10994), Top Material - 5478 452539 (ID #10993), Top Material - 5478 463464 (ID #10614), Trunk Lining - 5522-5542-5547-5562-5567-5582-5587-5588 6487021 (ID #11023), Top Material - 5697 These entries are now noted as 'Set-not-specified' in the spreadsheet, but since the Trunk Lining and Caribbean Hardtop materials were installed without regard to trim set number, I wonder if I should change them to 'Set-ALL' and what effect that might have on any intended database operations. However, there are some numbers which do not appear in ANY of the parts books, where I've similarly padded the titles to ensure a uniform number of fields. Model info is absent from the tags for the following materials: 438165* (ID #10930), Carpet 6482078 (ID #10806), Carpet (Black) 6482078 (ID #10807), Carpet (Blue) 6481134* (ID #10805), Body Cloth Set info is absent from the tags for the follwing material samples: 361944* (ID #10975), Sheeting 438311* (ID #11024), 27-oz. Jute 397305* (ID #10845), Drill Fabric 429263 (ID #10932), Wadding 438165* (ID #10930), Carpet 438672 (ID #10800), Carpet 452088 (ID #10915), Rubberized Fabric 6481134* (ID #10805), Body Cloth (1958) Yet, I'm thinking that P/N 438311 (ID #11024), 27-oz. Jute, was used regardless of Trim Set number, and might also changed to 'Set-ALL'. Color info is absent from the tags for the follwing material samples: 361944* (ID #10975), Sheeting 397305* (ID #10845), Drill Fabric 438311* (ID #11024), 27-oz. Jute P/Ns followed with an asterisk appear in more than one catagory, above, because they have more than one issue. However, there are some rather peculiar situations involving a few samples. The tag is completely missing from P/N 438165. Though it is obviously carpet material, I can only guess that the color might be Gray. Two different material cards are labelled with P/N 6482078 in the original set. Each contains a carpet sample, but Image #10806 is BLACK and Image #10807 is BLUE. Also, the presence of edge binding suggests that these are not samples taken off the roll, but from a finished carpet assembly. P/N 6481134 (ID #10805) is only identified as 'Black' and '1958 Color'. However, the body cloth material shown on this card is identical to that of P/N 6481134 (ID #10743), which is correctly identified for 1956. While the tag for P/N 438672 shows models 2677-78-79-97 and Maroon carpet, the 48-54 parts book shows P/N 442585 for that application. However, the 48-54 parts book shows models 5497 with Sets 973-973A for P/N 438672. Also, the tag advises that this replaces P/N 449139, but that number is not found in any of the parts books. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to document my observations, here, in hopes that we might obtain further input and factual evidence from the viewing public. I'm NOT looking for immediate response. We can simply edit the gallery entries for those P/Ns, online as new info comes to light.

I've been using the original scans to put information in an excel file then going through the parts book to add missing information such as additional applications and missing set numbers. Have done 200 so far. A lot of the earlier 1951-54 samples have applications for model numbers not shown on the cards.

361944* (ID #10975), Sheeting
438311* (ID #11024), 27-oz. Jute 397305* (ID #10845), Drill Fabric 429263 (ID #10932), Wadding 438165* (ID #10930), Carpet 438672 (ID #10800), Carpet 452088 (ID #10915), Rubberized Fabric Since some were used more than once, I wonder if these might be considered utility items. When the upholsterer did the 54, he found several extra layers sewn and fastened at a bias under the outer fabric to keep that material straight. Some muslin and also some heavier material-- maybe the drill cloth --and of course, the padding or maybe they called it wadding. Was all the carpet the same thickness and texture or did they use something different on the hassocks or other non floor items.

Brian (BeDB) -
I noticed additional listings like that in the parts books, mostly in the 48-54 edition, but had no idea there were that many instances. Recently in this thread, there was mention of a similar situation involving one card/tag (P/N 438670), which required duplication of the image to handle two distinct applications: 5462-5465-5467-5477-5478-5479-5497_Set-46-76-83-83A-116-126-976-976A_Carpet_Blue_438670 (ID #10944 ) ...and... 5472-5477_Set-6-322_Carpet_Blue_438670 (ID #10976 ) I'm not sure why they tried to to keep such listings separate in the parts books (or even that one material tag), but wonder if some of these listings involve earlier materials that were replaced by other part numbers. Unfortunately, the Numerical Index doesn't have as much supersession history as I had hoped. How these multiple listings are implemented into the gallery entires is an important matter that should be considered carefully once Kev has the current image titles and descriptions revised. My spreadsheet is now in his capable hands.

Howard,
You may be on to something. I've seen similar layering in the upholsterly of my Chevies from the '70s. Then, the 27 oz. Jute looks like what's under the original carpeting in my V8s. The sheeting reminds me of what was laid over the zig-zig seat aprings, prior to the convulted foam that was under actual trim cover assembly - finer weave than common burlap, but coarser than canvas or muslim. Not sure about the wadding and rubberized fabric. Perhaps these sundry items were not offered for service, then, but the P/Ns were for internal production use only. Unlike the groups for cloth/fabric and imitation leather (vinyl), which had subgroups for body, headlining, and sidewall (perhaps for various weights of material), I saw no such notation for carpet.
