NEW TOY!!!

This is a new to me toy... and a serious machine made many years ago.

Here is an eBay score... needs a motor and variable frequency drive and a little TLC. Hopefully in a couple of weeks it will be ready for duty.

Very appropriate -- what looks like a 30s tool should work on a 30s Packard like it was a match made in Detroit in the good old time.

Had a couple of hours to work in the shop last night and got the square tube formed and tacked in place. Now I have to add a cross member some gussets then take things apart so I can finish welding and grinding.

Hi RodBuilder

If you are planning to create a steel substructure for your sheetmetal, you'll have the only all-steel boat-tailed speedster in existence. Wood was the typical framing method then.

Do you have a design drawing of the body you are planning to build? We'd love to see it.

The steel tube frame is the base for the body. When I am all done the entire body will be able to lift off of the frame (without the front fenders, hood and rear fenders). The cowl bolts onto the front of this body frame. I have not decided if I'm going to make the rear part of the body (behind the doors) will bolt in. I'm leaning towards just welding it together.

As for the design, I'm looking at various photos of 1930 boat tail speedsters from the internet and I'm trying to duplicate the body lines as close as possible. I will not make drawings just sketches and simple patterns.

Thanks for your interest. I'm going to need help when I start restoring the drivetrain.

We just booked tickets to Denver CO... going to Cussler Museum in Arvada Colorado to check out their 1930 boat tail speedster. I'm very excited I hope I can get some measurements!
