Well part of the problem is even the bezel wont fit over the thread portion of the shaft. So I would have to find a new bezel, retainer nut and knob. So I think it may be just easier to find the correct switch itself.

HH56,

Where do you GET this incredibly detailed knowledge? Are you one of those fellows who can detail a Packard in his sleep? Just wondering.

No secrets and fading memory to boot--just measuring and experimenting.

Have been playing with ways to make a modern multifunction AC system replace an unable to get parts for original in my 56 and yet have everything appear stock. That requires making the existing 55-6 one knob control setup do more.
Have played with machining various ways that would use the existing bezel and knob so knew that size. Measured the earlier.

HH,

If you figure out AC, please post on prominent thread! I have been thinking that front ash trays would be a neat place for vents. Round holes and everything, pointed down the sides so air could reach back seat.

Will do. Not convinced the ash tray openings are large enough though. I've given various options lots of thought so will post in another thread later and maybe toss out some ideas for comment.

Any thoughts on the plain headlight switch bezel vs. the named "Lights" bezel?

Hope someone can confirm but I'd almost bet the lettered is 53-54 senior. The parts books shows same "Name Plate, Switch" used on those models and the 54 owners manual shows it. Believe the Clippers used basically same as 51-2 and don't think those were lettered.

Thanks that makes sense. It just looks so plain as most of the other dash knobs have the lettering. Speaker, Antenna, Cigar Lighter, etc.

If the rest are lettered, then the headlight switch assy was probably replaced from a 51-2 donor car. The parts manual says 26 and 54-- 02, 06, 13, 26 and 31 as being name plate. Haven't really been around Clippers much to say what was there other than like you said, 54 was a strange year.

Well I would imagine based on that my 5411 (5492 body) would not have had the named bezel. Perhaps the speaker and antenna switch have it because the are accessories that are the same between seniors and juniors. Neither the ignition nor the headlight switch have them. But the cigar lighter does. The lighter itself was missing when I got the car, but the lighter socket and named bezel were in place on the dash board.
