Well I am done with the garage for now.

I still need to install one more row of Gear Track along the back wall to cover the horizontal plywood seam, and then do a little bit of trim work. Then I need to patch and skim coat the old drywall, and then prime and paint the entire garage. But all of that will wait till after the holidays.

It is starting to look way better and for now most it is organized and but away. I still have a few things I need to find a home for.

Perhaps now I can get back to work on the car!!!

Gee, with all that wood, I'd be tempted to sand it smooth and rub it down with linseed oil. Then again, maybe "Deft"; a lacquer IIRC, it brushes on easy, dries quickly - available in flat, semi-gloss, or hi-gloss.

Looking good but may be a little to organized for me, As soon as I put everything in its place I start another little job a wind up with a big mess. Some say if its to neat all that gets done is cleaning the shop and no productive results. Its looks great now you can get on with the restoration. Main thing is for you to be happy and your wife to be happy so you can stay happy!

The wood is Luan. So it's already sanded smooth. It's basically ready for stain or paint!

I hate sanding. So that was another reason I bought the Luan. It's ready to go! I also installed all the sheets so the grain all ran in the same direction.

Well as part of prepping the front section of the frame for paint, I needed to pull the steering assembly out so I could scrape the junk ok of it, strip the paint off if it.

It came out pretty easily. Except someone in the past used a bend nail instead of a cotter pin on the passenger side, center link end cap.

So hear is a pic of what the assemble looked liked off the car, and another after disassembled the center link and cleaned as the internal parts.

One place I am stuck is that I cannot seperate the tierod ends from the steering arms. Do I need to use some type of puller to seperate them? I thought a couple firm wacks with a 3 lb plastic mallet would have broke it free, put that is not the case. I want to replace the rubber dust shields as they are a little worse for wear.

To date I must have chiseled 50 lbs of muck of the underside of the Clipper.

The 47-50 steering section shows just hitting the threaded end with a hammer but they appear to have something with a fairly large hex head--maybe brass or something that partially goes over threads to protect them. The hammer they are using appears to be a fairly healthy ball-peen.

Kev, If you are planning on reusing the tie rod ends then you should you the correct puller tool. You might try a "pickle fork" type tool but it will definitely destroy the rubber grease cup which you want to replace anyway so it shouldn't be a problem. These tools are pretty cheap and readily available at any auto parts store. Pounding them out from the stud end isn't advised unless you are replacing the whole unit anyway as you do risk damaging the threads.

Thanks for the advice guys. This echos the suggestions people gave me in Chat last night. I think I will run over to HF and buy a puller as it seams like the most effective way to seperate the two with the least risk of damage.
