Look inside the "T"'s and Elbow's as that is typically were the restrictions were.

I checked my 47 and 48 Custom 356s, they are both plumbed the same way. The return line connects to the block at the pan.
My three 327s are all plumbed like the Packard Service Counselor shows them. (see my earlier reply). I also have three 288s and the one that has a filter is connected the same way. Hope this helps.

Oh yes, I am checking the 48 filter for restrictions. So far I don't find anything that seems to restricting the flow. The elbows are standard in form. They, of course, could have been changed before the car came to me. Right now I can't find the T it was taken off and apparently misplaced. I'll keep looking.

I finally got the filter and fittings from my 48 Custom 356 hydraulic lifter engine. I found the mitering hole. It is in the side of the vertical tube inside the filter. I'll try to grab a photo and post it this evening.

Here's the picture of the metering hole in the oil filter central tube. This is, as I stated earlier, from my 48 Custom 356. I don't know if the Super and Eights use the same system.

Thanks for the clear illustration. That's what I was trying to get across in post #38 earlier in this thread. As far as the 356's are concerned, it appears the restriction is built into the cannister and not in the oil line fittings.

I will have to go take a look at the center post hole on my filter. I seem to remember it being bigger. Hmmmm

Took some pictures of other 48 to 50 288 engines here in South Africa. They are all plumbed like mine without the drain back at the bottom. Maybe this then is an export issue?

I don't think it's an export issue but I'd sure like to see the size of the outlet hole in the center tube on one of these 288 cannisters.
