JW, I checked my bolts and found they are all the same length. So I checked the parts book and it looks like the tour bolts should be the same

Back to looking into the shift linkage problem and I have discovered that the shifting tube appears to be about a half inch farther down then on my other Packard. So now to figure out why? With the linkage in its current position I find it's tight and hard at times to find neutral. More on this later.

Before taking the steering column and shifter out. I figure I would take a few more measurements. Distance between the steering wheel and column look to be about a half inch. But I did find an old link to where we had already talked about that spacing. Seepackardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb ... um=2&post_id=193139#forumpost193139

I'm including a photo that Howard had showing what the distance should be.

So I'm looking at pulling the whole column out, besides that it looks like it could use a good cleaning.

I'm also working on rewiring the Drivers Side Turn Signal and Headlight, pulled out the old wires and reran them though the covering for the turn signals and put the old connectors back on. Cleaned up the light bucket and getting the other set of wires ready to string.
I think my biggest problem is going to be reconnecting the springs in the light bucket, any suggestions?

Wes, back to the water pump. Measure the height of the bolt hole bosses. If they are all the same height, then probably same length bolts; if there are different heights, then probably different length bolts. You may have a newly manufactured pump housing with all the bosses the same height. My replacement pump had different height bosses. Enjoying your return and posts.

Been several years but as I recall in replacing the headlight bucket springs, the first one was not bad but after the first was on space got tight and the others were a pain. I finally resorted to tools and fortunately had a set of Matco spring hooks available. Was able to attach one end of a spring by hand and use one of the tools to push or pull the loop on the other end of the spring to get it where it needed to go.

My set has handles like a screwdriver which makes them easy to manipulate and hold on to. Amazon has some sets with and without handles. Here is one example of an inexpensive set without handles. They also have sets with the working ends in small and large gauges that can handle a larger assortment of spring sizes.

Thanks JW and Howard, been a rough week my mother passed away last Sunday, had the funeral Friday, 96 years old. Had a good life and was taking care of her sister who had just passed away earlier this year, she was 103 I think. They were living together until last summer when my mom just couldn't handle her any more. O'well that's a long story, moving on with the Packard.

Working on the water pump, flushed the system out real good. Noticed water coming out of two of the bolt holes, the other two holes dry. Looking at the bolts two look the same and the other two were both different but they all looked to be about the same length. Installed the copper washer on the two bolts where the water was coming out and also put Shellac the the ends of those two bolts only. Put on new hoses and clamps, had to trim the hose from the head to the radiator, it was too long and installed a new fan belt (All parts from Max Merritt). Added distilled water and a bottle on Water Wetter. Started it up, ran for a while. So far didn't see any leaks, I'll check again later.

Well moving on, working on getting the Drivers side Light Bucket painted and rewired. Got my wires from Rhode Island Wiring, also picked up 7/16 by 1/16 Neoprene Tubing for the five wires going into the bucket from the junction block. I also added a short piece of heat shrink tubing where it goes into the bucket to help slide the tubing though the grommet. So far it doesn't look to bad. I've been trying to reuse as much hardware as possible.
Next installing the inner ring and the springs, hopefully it won't be too difficult, famous last words!
