update:
the number 3 piston that i had, i used a new piston pin because the one that was in the piston had some pitting on it and my OEM ones are very clean. ironically it fit perfect. so i took the pin that came with the piston number 3 and it fit in all of the other rods fine as well. the only reason i didn't know it worked was because of the pitting so i never even tried it. so in sum...the number 3 piston is standard size all around...so that is a good piston. i will check the others out, but so far number 1 and 5 are not good. okay, update.
i checked all the other pistons and 4 out of the 8 are good to go. i used my NOS standard pins as they were in a bit better shape. those pistons, two on each side are good to go. sending back 4 rods/pins to Jack soon. thanks again Jack! so i guess you could say i have one of those new hybrid type cars that turn off some of the cylinders when you don't need them, only mine is permanent LOL! yes i have not installed them all the way. gotta take my pin clips off the old pistons first, i just set them in there for now. yes i am using assembliers lube on all moving parts and will probably bath it down with some fresh oil in the valley too. it is a greasey type substance with moley in it. if you look at my past pics you can see it caked on the cam bearings and i will spread it on the lobes and lifters when they are ready. i already used it on the pins on the pistons as well. i used ATF on the cylinder walls though and will squirt some down in the cylinders before i close them up with the heads.
i was going to ask how people filled their lifters. i don't have a compression tool to squeeze them down with. i saw on youtube that a guy put them in oil and then put them on a vibrator machine to speed it up. Hank

Well, if you're in a hurry I suppose, you could hook them up to a vibrator, (no comment) but I think if you just soak them (completely covered with oil in a small pan, like an ice cube tray) they'll fill up fine. Other opinions may vary. Use at your own risk.

weekend work.
lubed up the cam lobes, soaked the lifters and put them in. i got one lifter that is stuck, but i have it soaking in PB blaster. don't want to install that and bend something, so i'll get it free again. installed the pistons also and sent off the rods/pins to Jack for machine work. now if my main/rod bearings would just come in i could get the crank in. Henry, can't wait to hear this engine running. Salado 2012? You may have mentioned this, but just wondering if you are using a thread chaser to clean-up the threads in the block and heads. Stay cool.

the goal is Salado 2012, but i'm not sure if i will have it done by then. having a hard time finding valve springs to go with the revs this new cam is capable of. Jack and i are working on that, mostly Jack lol.
its going to sound so nasty, although it wont really be a performance car, it'll sound really really good. i bought this dual points breaker plate off ebay recently....cheap. says it will fit, but after looking at all the wires, etc, in my distributer i don't know how it will accomodate dual points. i just thought it would be fun to try since it was cheap.
