thanks guys!
here are some old advertisments i found of the used car lot that my car came from in Sherman Texas. i still have the Hilburn metal tag for the back of the car. aerial views show what is probably the dealership as it has bays in the back, but the parking lot is filled in with another building. cannot find anything old or any hilburn post cards etc.... this is from 1950, there was from 47-48 also. nothing after 50 from the directory. it was a ford dealer.

got the carb from ebay in on saturday. i was not that happy with it. the dye job was good, but the rebuild was crap. bent springs, dirty springs, bent floats, stuck atmospheric vent valve, and would not engage the secondaries. The choke was not wound either and the choke valve was not set to the proper gaps. and of course the crappy chock design is plastic and broke when i turned it. i glued it back and turned it by hand after that. anyone got one that isn't broke or know where to get it (part number 7000193) google no go.
got 50 bucks back on the carb from ebay. i was able to correct all this with my better daytona rebuild kit which is also ethanol resistant and has a better needle design. also got the other head done. have the parts laid out that i want powdercoated black also. enjoy. well no hard feelings to the guy who "rebuilt" it, but the only good thing he did was the dye work, the rest was not acceptable.
but you guys know me...i'm very picky and precise. the only reason i kept it was because the dye work was good and the carb was correct for my car and the price was about the same as some i've seen on ebay that needed complete cleaning and rebuilding. i just used the daytona kit i got several months back to redo it. plus my original carb was, i believe, the wrong carb number, although it worked. dropped off the parts that are too big for my blast cabinet to get sandblasted and also small engine parts that i wanted powdercoated black. waiting this morning for a call on the qoute for the work. motor should be seeing some paint soon. Henry,
So you're saying it came back from the re-builder with the stuck valve-- just like my Solex did! However, I couldn't get the damn valve out either, so the carb went back on as it was until I could buy a new Weber 2-barrel with mechanical secondary. Should've done that before the rebuild! The Solex was a notable POS with lousy vacuum secondary and a tendency for the body to warp all over the place. BTW, the car was a '73 Opel Manta Rally that scooted real good, even before the Weber. Still the best-handling car I've ever owned, even with a live rear axle.

It does look great. Did they manage to keep the "well worn comfort" with all the lumps in the right places when they did the new stuffing and leather?

oh yes and then some. the fact that the new leather is softer helps alot too. the old stuff was stiff from age.
i just sink into it now, took a heck of a nap in it yesterday...was awesome! should be getting my parts back from the powder coaters today or tomorrow. i've been remodeling my garage in the mean time. its much more efficient and organized now. i was able to obtain some really nice heavy cabinetry from our MRI room remodel at the hospital. they were just throwing them out. made great work benches.
