I would love to buy a car like that! The beautiful tan and red interior is especially appealing, but the whole car is impressive.

Do you know the owner? Is it local to you? I see it sold. Wonder what it went for?

If I'd seen it (and had any money) it would've gone REALLY fast.

Hi,
I'm sure that the guy got his $3,500 for it.
Bedford NH is a rather "well-heeled" part of NH.
There was a '54 Clipper junker about a month ago on Craigslist NH and that guy wanted $2000 for it. The difference of that $1,500 between the two was HUGE!

Lots of people don't get it. Right now I am dickering for a 1951 200 in the local area. It's a #4 car but the owner (a dealer) wants #3 money for it. He just sold on Ebay yesterday for $4200 which is a very good price for that car but he is trying to jack the price up to $5000. In the Old Car Price Guide it's a $3600 car.

This dealer just bought the car a week ago from someone I know. He won't tell me what he got for the car but he did say if the dealer gets what he wants he will make a BIG profit.

Bedford NH is a long drive for me (about 8 hours) but if I had a good trailer I would have gone after that one for sure.

Well gentleman (and ladies?) Let me introduce myself, I am a new member here who bought the car in question. I am now in need of some help! The car needs a valve job and I am in search of a valve compressing tool for the 327. anyone know of a source or a suitable replacement?. By the way the car is a real prize with the special 3 stripe wool interior in like new condition thanks to seat covers installed when new. 33K original miles and solid as a rock. it is a 2372 Super Deluxe Touring Sedan. Thanks
Eric

G'day Eric,

Welcome to the Packardinfo site. Could you please add your '49 to the Owner Registry with a pic, and history if known?

If you tell me what you paid for it I will tell you how to fix it.

The tool you need is a universal valve spring compressor used on all flathead engines. It is hard to describe, it is like a scissor that works in reverse, when you squeeze the handle the business end spreads apart. That end has 2 branches that end in a Y. When you put it under the valve spring and squeeze, it pushes the valve up and allows you to remove the valve keepers. When you release it the valve spring falls out and you can pull out the valve.

I have 3 of them in my tool box. They used to turn up at farm auctions and garage auctions but have not seen one now in about 30 years.

What you need is an old gray haired or bald headed mechanic or auto machine shop. They will have the tools and know how to use them.
