1929 Packard 6-40 Rollston Touring Barn Find. Here is a video of the car being pulled out of the garage. I have a picture of this car in black that was posted on October 1953 in Motor Trend. Color was changed to white at some point. The body is aluminum. Front seating has a pass through. There is a windscreen that pulls out the back passenger seat, it is adjustable. The firewall data plate dealer name is PMCCO. New York dated 5-1-29. This is a very interesting car.

Hi

Quite a spectacular 'barn-find'! Rollston was one of the top-tier custom coachbuilders, in commissioning this one-off, a wealthy individual paid well beyond the price of a factory-bodied 640 touring. By the details, they had Rollston incorporate features found on touring bodies a decade prior. The pass-through to the front seating, the single, extendable tonneau windshield, a single folding jump seat for an attendant and what appears to be an elevated rear seat or at least high-backed seat, all indicate a car outfitted for a specific purpose. This wasn't simply for mere transportation, it was a carriage to be seen in.

One can picture the important owner and guest seated prominently on the rear 'throne' being chauffeured with footman and attendant all obsequiously facing forward, taking a leisurely drive along the parkway, taking the country air.

The old expression "The rich are different than you and I" applies here.

Steve

.....epigram time.....
Proud 1953 Clipper Deluxe owner. Thinking about my next Packard, want a Clipper Deluxe Eight, manual shift with overdrive.

And the artillery wheels, the aftermarket vinyl roof of the late 20s-early 30s.

A throwback feature that men of a certain age just can't be without.

I've always found it surprising that Packard continued to offer wooden spoke artillery wheels on senior cars thru 1936 - again it says something about their clientele.

Though a completely different body style, the front seating on that really interesting car reminds me very much of this seating on a later Rollston as seen the Packard Gilmore event a few years back.

Dave. That's actually slightly earlier, if I remember correctly.
