The Valspar DTM was pretty expensive, I can get Matrix, PCL , or Axcess 2K High Build Urethane for 1/2 the cost at my local shop.
The PPG Omni is about $90 per gallon with catalyst, and I found another 2K for around $60. I think it works as well as the Omni. The best I've used is the PPG K38, but it's over $300 per gallon.

A few folks have asked what color my car is going to be painted. I am going back to the original color which is Metallic Bikini Blue, and this is what the color looks like (you monitor color allowing). It's the color on the lower right.

Hank, thinking that 51 may be one of the Turquoise colors. Bikini looks pretty close to Astral Blue, but not 100% in IMHO.

Kev,

The paint evidently fades whether in the sun or not. My firewall and engine bay have faded. I imagine it's oxidation, and will get out a rag and some polish to see what's underneath. Will post pics if it looks to be close to original.

Can't wait to see what yours looks like painted. I'm going to be even more anxious to get mine done. Unfortunately, it'll be going to a body shop because I have not the talent, time (because I'm sloooow) or space to do any of it myself. It'd be a great experience. Maybe when Keegan gets around to painting his he'll let me stand at a respectful distance so I can see how it's done.

Good luck. It'll look great!

Kev,

Metallic Bikini Blue, eh? Does it shimmy in the sunlight?

Seriously, I painted my 1976 Firebird "Blockbuster Blue", a Mustang color and pretty similiar to that blue. EVERYBODY loves it and they should love it on yours too. For reference (your monitor/video card will cause variation):

Good choice!

Craig, nice color. I thing the bikini blue was a bit more gray to it the that color. The metallic is very fine almost like a pearl.

Now, my picture was taken indoors for the color will lighten a bit in sunlight, but here are the two colors next to each other for comparison.

Bikini Blue ought not shimmy, it will just shine in a dignified Packard way. But the name is definitely cool. Bikini at the time, of course, was famous more as an island in the Pacific that was the site of an early nuclear weapon test, later to be enshrined as as the name of a particular swimsuit. Weird, huh? Packard on the cusp of war and fashion. Kind of where they were from way back in WWI days.

OK, so maybe "Blockbuster blue" is not exactly the same shade of blue as "Bikini metallic blue". Everyone will still love it.
