Contact points - Delco-Remy # 1871870

Rotor - Delco-Remy # 1926099

I've purchased these with the intention of placing same into my Delco - Remy distributor # 1110854 for my 55 Packard.

Does anyone have the original distributor cap number & condenser.

Is there an all encompassing catalog or guide for Delco-Remy products of the era?

i have a standard brand cap....other then the missing "delco-remy" logo..i can't tell a difference.

echlin also makes a condenser that fits.

but i guess the point here is to go all 100% original down to the brand?

A lot of common usage for these parts across the entire GM range plus some Studebaker applications

A sincere thank-you for BigKev & BDeB for responding. I've copied your posting Kev and I'm putting it somewhere I can hopefully find at a later time.

To others and Cli55er, I'm not trying to get back to totally original for total originality purposes. Please remember that I've committed multiple acts of misbehavior with the purists. To wit: Melling oil pump adaptation, full flow oil filter, electric wipers, radial tires and other unspeakable (4L60E transmission) additions. I believe that Packard would have improved drivability had they endured, and likewise, I too have attempted to make a good driver out of my 400. I'm nearing 3k miles since finishing her.

But back to originality, I'm trying to establish a 'baseline' so to speak. So many users here are mechanically inclined; I am not so inclined. Remember it took me (10) years to do the restoration and I had to ask, sometimes multiple times, silly questions to understand. My quest for a baseline is so that I know what distributor parts should really be in the unit. A few weeks back I attempted to purchase parts (using the cross-over listing) and became confused and frustrated. Not having a 'counter-man' that seems to give a damn, I got the wrong parts a couple of times (okay I'm whining). So I want the most original parts as a example for future tune-ups etc.

The 400 is running poorly (like crap) right now and I think its the points (but what the hell do I know). A friend threw a analyzer onto her and my dwell is 18 degrees. Guess I'm burning up points he says. So, I'm trying to assemble the best parts and then I'm going to have her tuned again.

Just do the petronix unit and be done with it.

Couldn't agree more. I fitted a Pertronix kit to my '56 Pat and it has never given me any trouble. No dwell to worry about, just set the timing. I don't know about '55's but for my Delco distributor (#1110865) the Pertronix kit is #1183. I also fitted a Petronix flamethrower coil as well, which is supposed to produce a stronger spark. how did you bypass the resistor on the firewall. did you just connect the two wires together.

i know it has to be bypassed as the pertronix coil is internally 1.5ohm resisted already, therefore there is no need for the one on the firewall.

just curious as to how you wired it up.

same part number for 55 except the 12v POS version (1183P12 or something, can't remember), but in Kevin's car, he converted to NEG ground, so he uses 1183 like you.
