Are you aware that Egge has OEM-spec. valve springs for most all collecor cars including most years of Packards?

Yes, Egge, Kanter or Merritt are options, but would like a cross reference to obtain part from local parts house. I've heard that Associated Spring makes most of the valve springs. There must be a current application spring that matches or is close to the Packard spring specs.! Maybe, its wishful thinking!!!!

I believe the spring you're referring to is Egge's VS-512. FWIW, just a quick browse of their catalog (can't assure you I read every entry) shows no other car or truck using that spring.

I have many sets of perfectly good used ones I'll sell you cheap. Valve spring failure is pretty well a non-issue with those cars. Think I have only ever seen one.

Using my caliper/ruler the "id" is .940 and the "od" is 1.300 I have a couple of old aftermarket spring numbers--rv417 and vs512. I would think there is a current number spring that would be close and usable... Ross I also have some used springs but they dont meet specs because they are used and I'm not using them.

Depending on how much 'out of spec' the used springs are there is an old school method of shimming valve springs with HARDENED steel washer type shims.
For new springs try to google something like "valve spring specifications". I have dome this for bellhousing specs (patterns) for engine conversions i've done. It's amazing at what is out there.

Also try various eBay searches. eBay has an "other applications" (named something like that) that lists other vehicles that any particular part mite fit. I've used it several time for exhaust pipes and other parts. Fairly reliable too. mazing at what often comes up. O'reilly, AdvanceAutoparts and AutZone websites (one of them) has "other application" features at their websites too and in some cases give dimensions.

Here is the latest in my quest for-over the counter- substitute valve springs. Since the auto parts stores dont have a listing and the numbers I provided are either outdated(no later number) or deleted could not help. Suggested I call SB International Spring. I called SBI and the tech support was very cooperative, but even with the spring specs. could not find a suitable spring.
There are lots of cam companies that have valve springs but no springs within my specs. It seems the biggest differences are in the spring rate. Egge is out of the springs, but should have some next week. This begs the question-where do they get them made? My name is on their list. The search and drama continues--------
