In the eigthies my company allowed itself a Motoball team. The motorcycles, intended to use under hard conditions, have always been furnished with fine pantihoses instead of air cleaners to increase the air supply.

Make sure the underside of the hood area is clean in the area over the carburetor. I've seen one case where there were remants of the fiberglass hood pad and they were sucked into the carburetor and thus the engine.

A standard white athletic sock and some duct tape can also be used as a temporary air cleaner, if you can't find a woman to donate a pair of nylons.
