All of the straight 8 Packards at the salvage yard had broken or missing antennas, not sure why that's case. The '55 was the only Packard I saw with a decent antenna, mainly got it for the aesthetics. I was tired of having a hole in the fender and was contemplating welding a piece of sheet metal in there, but I figured an antenna would be cooler to have. -Garrett

Never know why some get broken, and others don't. This car has modern antennas, just don't look right,mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=HA0413-149901&entryRow=230

Here is a quick test video I took with my new camera. The Packard is running out of a straight pipe here...

Hey Guys,
Thousands of cars at the Lonestar Roundup and only one Packard; this here 1953. So wish I could have taken mine up this year, but she just didn't want to go. It would have been very stressful in Austin traffic without a 2nd gear. Pictures are a little big, sorry. -Garrett

Hey Guys!
Put another radiator in only to find out there was zero clearance between the core and fan. The problem, the person who owned it before me was installing A/C so, it had a water pump spacer and extra pulley located on the damper, as well as the old radiator brackets had been re-located closer to the core. Without the water pump spacer the fan was hitting the extra pulley, so it had to go. Since I was going to have to remove the pulley I decided to go ahead and replace the loose damper. It took an impact to get the old one off; leverage didn't do the trick. The new damper is solid on the crank, no play at all. The old girl is almost ready to get out on REAL streets. -Garrett Attach file: (24.65 KB) (27.36 KB) (25.78 KB) (36.79 KB) (34.83 KB) (44.15 KB) (36.33 KB) (37.19 KB) (30.68 KB) (24.49 KB) (24.81 KB) (18.44 KB) (37.08 KB)

Hey Guys!
Is it bad if the upper radiator hose is firm after driving a few miles? There is a noticeable difference in temp from the upper tank to the lower tank. Nothing is coming out of the overflow tube, so it isn't getting too hot correct? -Garrett

My guess is that the hose is firm because of the pressure in the system. That should be someplace between 7 and 13? psi depending on your radiator cap. If both upper and lower hoses are firm, then that should be normal. Sounds like your coolign system is free of leaks!

Hey Guys!
The car did fairly well going to her first show. Other than having a bad battery and sparks coming from under the car (not sure why) she made it there and back with a jump from my friends 4runner. I spent most of the time just out of reach of the show (85 yards maybe) and was able to drive down once I got a jump from my friend, by that time most of the cars were gone. One fellow drove by late and was very intrigued by my Packard. He loved the look and was pretty familiar with Packards. I must have talked with the guy for an hour. All in all a fun and nerve racking experience. Enjoy... -Garrett <iframe width="480" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ORBZXljEiZg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Congratulations and glad you made the show and back in one piece. Sparks from under the car would sure ruin the day for me so hopefully tracking that down will be a high priority project.
