You can buy those easily at any auto parts store. They are 1 3/4 inch.

Packard V8s require a less-common-but-still-available 1-49/64" shallow soft plug. They're still in the book, both in plated steel and in brass. I just bought a box full last week. jack vines

Thanks Ross and JV. Just out of curisoity how thick is the metal in the deep 1-3/4 plug compared to the correct shallow 1-49/64 plug????? I don;t have any to measure.
My guess is that the shallow plug is probably thicker metal than the deep plug. Thicknesses of each plug compared to OEM plug thickness. The only reason i bring up metal thickness is for longevity of the plug life relative to rusting thru.

Okay, so I found one of the original block plugs I popped out about a year ago, and am comparing it to the replacement one. The OD is correct. But the thickness of the original is almost twice as deep compared to the replacement.
Are the shallow plugs what should be in the block? Are the thicker plugs incorrect that someone put in years ago?

Aftermarket generic replacement parts often aren't an exact match for an OEM part sourced a half-century ago. But the important functional dimension is correct so go for it.
