On my 38 120 coupe the strip is one piece about 1 1/2 " wide and goes from the rear edge of the running board to about 1 1/2 " from the front of the fender wheel cut out.

aren't these roll formed stainless rather than chrome plated?

Yes, stainless steel and not chromium plated. Many of the running board moldings are available from Northfield Forming and that's the first place I'd check to see if they have it.
