That's a lot of work sanding dry with 400 grit. I use a different process.

I do all of my dry blocking with 180 on various length long boards. I use those hard rubber ones, with the 180 that comes on a roll and has adhesive on it. That way I can have various length boards, from a 24 inch, all the way down to a little short hand block. The 180 sands the high build primer easily, and when I encounter any areas that need attention, I apply some Evercoat Metal Glaze spot putty, block it with a fresh sheet of 180, and re-prime.

When I am completely satisfied, after several repeated priming and blocking sessions, each with a rattle can black guide coat, I spray my final application of two coats of high build followed by a guide coat, and only then do I do the final sanding with 400 wet.

I then unmask everything, wash the car, blow it dry, remask for color, and its ready for the paint booth.

Well because of family and work issues, I really havent been on the website that much lately, or done anything Packard related in genreal, but yesterday there was a break in my hectic schedule, and I was able to get into the garage.

Managed to get the last nasty job on the Packard done; getting the trunk stripped out and primered. Pics tell the story. On a related note, I discovered that I fit comfortably in the trunk with room to spare.

One of the HF stripping wheels. Two of them actually on a 4.5" angle grinder. And yes, I was completely filthy when done.

Kev, nice job! It is a large trunk, but I notice there is less of you. Maybe there will be room for two before you are done? No Packarding here, working on the Roadster Hot Rod re-doing the cockpit. More fun than a barrel of monkeys. Where in the heck did that saying come from?

A bit less of me. About 65lbs less since X-Mas. So I may have to change my moniker to "NotAsBigKev".

Oh and to answer your question:

More Fun that an Barrel of Monkeys:

It is a phrase that means a good-natured chaotic state, some form of light-hearted pandemonium. The expression is an English idiom in the form of a hyperbole.

According to Charles E. Funk, word historian:

"One monkey arouses a great deal of amusement. Two or more then double the interest and amusement. If one were to release a barrel full of monkeys, we must suppose that their antics would become hilariously comical."

Earliest printed use example found was 1884.

Kev, thank you so much for the English lesson. Much appreciated. Now I can use the phrase with knowledge.

A final coat of high build. A just need to do a little work on the splash pans, fender skirts, and sun visor parts, and then the old girl is getting towed over to the body shop for them to do the final blocking, sealer and paint work.
