Dear Tom:
You are correct to be concerned about the shelf life. The unit you buy should be bench tested and guaranteed by the seller. You can also bench test it yourself using a hand vacuum pump. In fact simply sucking on the line will suffice. If you want one rebuilt it will be more expensive, but I can provide you with a talent who can do it. Hope this helps

Terrill Machine in Texas rebuilds them. My vac adv was leaking so bad the engine would not idle. I ordered one from Max Merritt because of lead time from Terrill
