No help on a bracket for you but doubt they are that hard to find. Am curious if the UK plate will fit in that space well and how well the plate fits the bracket. Believe your plates are about 20 cm longer & not as high as a US plate so maybe why the previous owner elected to put it in the middle??
From looks of a couple of photos, there is not much to the prewar Packard front bracket -- essentially a "tee" with a couple of slots. Two sliding brackets with holes on the bottom cross piece & a small piece with a "U" bend at the top to go over the plate edge at the middle. Any chance you could find a universal bracket over there similar in looks but more suited to your plate size?

Thanks for the description of the bracket. sounds simple enough to fabricate if I can't find one.
As for the UK size plate, well the plates on the car now are US size but with the UK registration number. these were on the car when I bought it. Probably not totally legal, but I'm not going to change them for UK sizes as I think they look great. -Thom

I've just email a friend and asked him to take a quick photo or 2 of the license plate bracket on his 1941 180. I can't believe the 1940 bracket would be significantly different.

Thanks. That would be very useful. I found an old photo of one showing the bracket without the plate on it, so almost there in terms of a fabrication.
