Chad, thanks for locating that, I've ordered a couple of them. Point files should be used only when metal has transferred from one contact point to the other; when only simple oxidation is present using one of these is much to be preferred as it doesn't remove the finely polished surface of the contact points. On relay points as opposed to ignition points the contact surfaces actually slightly swipe or glide against each other ever so slightly when closing, and roughening the surface can be very detrimental to contact life.

You piqued my curiosity, decided to see if I could find something similar to the the flexible strips you described.

How about these: Flexible Abrasive Contact Files? They sound just like what you described. I've just cancelled my Amazon order, and I am going to try these out.

Sounds like a good choice. The ones I had years back were quite small, flexible, double-sided, and disposable after a few uses. Them came in packets of a dozen or so.

After gently using the points file and some QD on the contacts last weekend, I went for a test drive and it was much better, but still stalled out a few times.

Thanks OD I ordered burnishing files. had a chance to lightly burnish the contacts yesterday with the burnishing files from McMaster-Carr and went for a test drive.

That did the trick. No stalling at all = Happy Camper! Multiple stop sign intersections within a 5 mile loop around my house. I also fixed a loose electrical connection and now the overdrive actually works!

Glad it's apparently solved; if it happens again replace the condenser.
