Scored some old school tune up gear at a garage sale...CHEAP!!! I'll have to replace the wires on the Dwell/Tach but that will be easy. Of course, I will have to look up how to use them! Hope they all work!

Nice find. I always thought Auto Meter was a relatively new company, did not know they have been around for some time.

Finally finished rebuilding the carb. Had some issues getting the metering rods to seat. Had to take one off the lifter mechanism, screw the two halves of the carb together again, then reattach the metering rod with the tips of two screwdrivers. Also lost the rod that opens the throttle valves. Not sure where it went. I took the one off the '51 carb for now until it shows up (hopefully). Some of the adjustments in the instructions were a little confusing to me so I hope it works! I'll put it on the car this weekend and see if there is an improvement.

We'll something went amiss...installed the carb and the car starts right up. Tried to kick down the high idle but it didn't go down right away. Then the idle dropped slowly and the car stalled. Reving the engine shows hesitation still and ultimately a stall. I have a new style float valve from Daytona that is supposed to prevent lean out conditions. I adjusted the float per spec. Idle mix screws are out 1-1/2 turns. Guess I need to play around with some settings.

Just a thought . . . could possibly be a combination of timing advance (or lack of it) with carby adjustments / tuning. When I got mine running it was rough and wouldn't rev. Loosened distributor and gave it a fairly decent turn and things got a lot better.
This was strange because timing initially appeared to be correct using a timing light. My engine still is rough and climbs to revs with a little missfiring but much better than it was. I'll get back to it later, and maybe I'll find the dizzy advance mechanism needs to be replaced.

Those are good points, Larry. I do need to go over the major tune up procedures. The car ran decent with the carb off the 288. Maybe that is a clue that something is amiss other than the carb. The only carb adjustment I had trouble with was the fast idle one.
Thanks for the complement, Hank! I painted the body with cast aluminum engine paint and the base in cast iron engine paint. Looks out of place in the sub par engine compartment now!
