Most intriguing, indeed! I never realized that German officers during World War II used Packards as staff cars.

I guess all manner of vehicles were commandeered for war use when necessary. One that has a particularly interesting history is this 38 Super Eight by Franay which was delivered by Packard/Paris before the war, then taken over for use by the Nazis in Paris, and then later in the war taken over by Allied forces and used yet again as a staff car. The car is now in the Marano collection.

They had to do something. We kept bombing the hell out of the Mercedes Factory.

Just watched an old Burns and Allen show. During a scene Gracie, Blanche and Harry von Zell were riding in the back seat of a taxi having a conversation. Following close behind the taxi was a 53 or 54. Think it was a Clipper because the grill looked plain but didn't see the back well enough to be sure. It was in the scene for about a minute. A few minutes later during a different conversation, they showed the exact same car following again. Must have been a movie projection of a freeway scene viewed thru the rear window with the actors in a stationary car set. The Packard moved in exactly the same way when changing lanes and the same car was in an adjacent lane. The Packard was doing itself proud.

Other views of the '39 Super Eight by Franay. Among the many interesting features on this car is a vault or safe hidden below the rear floorboard.
