Other differences in the intake manifolds also. I don't know enough about the differences between the 2nd and 3rd series Eights to comment further. The Kimes-edited tome has a bit of a description of the function, hoped-for benefits, and issues with the Skinner and notes it was dropped from production in November 1926.

I think you will find that Howard Schaevitz's car is a 1926 and probably a later model.

My error, Howard Schaevitz' car is an early (1926-built) 3rd Series Eight, a 343 by Dietrich.

This is an extremely old thread but I think it's an interesting note that you can still buy automotive use oil dehydrators today. BelleFlex currently produces the DeHydrex line.

The operating principle is very similar, with a glass filter instead of asbestos, and basically a chamber for the oil to outgas.
