The car had a hard life and served on rails until 1987. Since 2004 the 533 lives on a small pension in a Chilean railroad museum.

Intermediate state
A world map has been attached to illustrated the countries, whose government leaders (regardless of wether kings, dictators, elected Presidents, founder of the states or otherwise came to power), preferred to drive Packard or Packard cousins.

This is the story of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, who died on 11 September, 1948.
The below displayed postcard shows his Packard with chromed headlamps but painted radiator frame. I believe to prefer it contrariwise. The second photograph shows the same ...Cadillac. The top looks like made of leather.

Sir Sultan Muhammed Shah, Aga Khan III, well, that's quite a titel. As spritual leader of more than 15 million people the Aga Khan is not literally part of the predetermined circle in the proper meaning of the word "statesmen" but such a car is ticket into almost every circle. Agreed?

Okay, whom have we here. "Zhang Zuolin was the warlord of Manchuria from 1916 to 1928. He successfully invaded China proper in October 1924 in the Second Zhili-Fengtian War. He gained control of Peking, including China's internationally recognized government, ..." [wikipedia]

The car of the generalissimo with a body by Brooks-Ostruk (NY), is already part of the Photo Archive.


Two more photographs of this armored cruiser are attached. If you are interested to read, how the very last ride of Mr. Zhang Zuolin ended, then this way please.

The life of a warlord was an iffy one, but he had a nice Packard....wonder who ended up with it?

Steve, no information available. The Great Wall casts a long shaddow.
BTW I was amazed that nobody asked for the strange radiator of the Aga Khan car. It looks as if someone tried to combine as many particularities as possible:

#1 - the Pines Automatic Winterfront
#2 - A Winterfront in India?
#3 - Chromed, brazen yellow or even nickel plated?

However, thats a Packard equipped with a Winterfront. Here comes another and one of the passengers is John Calvin Coolidge, Jr. (July 4, 1872 - January 5, 1933). Number one as the 30th President of the United States from 1923 to 1929.




The last sentence is written to contrapose the warming effect of the Winterfront with the so-called Coolidge effect.

Have we reached the end of the rope after four years and thirteen pages? Nope. Below another one of the cars in service for FDR, a 1932 Packard Phaeton. I like its corner booth.
In case of capable internet connection, go this way to get a high resolution (4000 ? 3118) photograph.

"The Packard was purchased in 1932 by Gov. Roosevelt for his use in Albany. When Roosevelt was elected U.S. president, the car became part of the state fleet."

The Packard was purchased in 1932 by Gov. Roosevelt for his use in Albany.

And there it still resides, in the New York State House garage in Albany. A lucky few of us have obtained permission from the State of NY to visit it there.

Last year Timesunion.com announced that the car as part of

"...the State Museum's collections will be exhibited at the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse until Sept. 1."

Annother photo shows FDR sitting in this very car.
