Yes. Pretty much just the outer skin of the door.
Update. Major damage repaired. Door hinges fixed and door fitted.

West,

Saw your car last year in Wisconsin. Thanks for keeping us up to speed on your issue with the door. Sorry it happened but I learned something about just how solidly these cars are built. There must be some difference in the Senior and Junior latches as I don't believe my 41 110 has any secondary latches. I am now checking the tightness on my 4 door touring sedan and did find the right rear latch was loose.

Your not the first person to have that happen on a 1940 Packard. A friend of mine has a 1940 180 club sedan and on one of his rear doors the hinges are "sprung" from the door flying open at speed at one time in the cars past. This happened before he bought it in the late 1960's. The door still opens & closes, but you can feel the tension in the hinges as you do it.

Hi West

Glad to see the repairs proceeding apace. I'm curious what would cause the striker plate screws to loosen: body flex? Or simply the repeated force from door-opening operations?

Proud 1953 Clipper Deluxe owner. Thinking about my next Packard, want a Clipper Deluxe Eight, manual shift with overdrive.

I don't know, but I'll be checking the tightness of the screws every year, if not more often.

Paul Rose, at Vintage Motorcar Company, is an extremely good upholstery man. For another very good friend, he located the correct material and color for inside liner of the back-seat assist straps. Originally made of silk, it is rare to find an original assist strap that hasn't "burst" with the stuffing coming out, like on my car. With leftover material from my friend's car, Paul was able to make my assist straps look new as well.

While old material looks to be gold in color, in the area that was folded tight near the top, it was discovered that the original color was bronze.

Very nice, West. Will I be seeing you at the Packard National next week in Reading, PA?

Toggle grips or assist straps can be very challenging to reproduce or repair, the photo enclosed is the one from my 1934 Eight sedan and used for several years; probably impossible to find the materials to do an exact replicate.

West, I'm sure you've thought of it but how about blue thread locker on those screws.

Yes, I have thought of thread locker. I just want to make sure I don't use one that "welds" it to the plate, as I want to remove the striker plates in the near future so that I can repaint the door post.

Unfortunately, the AACA 80th anniversary national meet is in Louisville next weekend also, so I will miss the Packard meet. It is the second Packard show I'm missing this year because of a conflict with an AACA national meet. The first was the Experience in Hickory Corners.
