Thanks Hans! Your 52 is also taking shape very well. I was thinking about the multi pin connector you put in your dash harness last sunday while I was re-routing wires again. At least new-soft wires move much better than old wires under the dash.
I'm looking forward to trying out my rebuilt engine and the combination with the OD trans and 3.90:1 rear axle. Should be a good cruiser. We are expecting a daughter in the next few weeks, so I think I might not be in the garage for a while when she gets here!
This weekend should be productive, but might be the last time in a while....

working in fits and spurts.... Got a few things done this past weekend. Dash, wiring and some trim pieces installed and also the headlights and parking lights that are installed inside the headlights are hooked up. (euro spec)
When attaching the stainless trim on the rear fenders I put a rubber disk and some body sealer behind each trim fastener in an attempt to make the sides of the car somewhat water resistant....I figure the less water that can enter the sides of the car the better!

I'm not sure if I got the rubber seal that goes between the A pillar and the fender on there correctly. I will have to compress it quite a bit in order to bring the fender in to get the panel gap in line.

Whoa dude, the fender rubbers are way wrong. That depressed area just above the hinge should be covered with rubber and there should be a little tab of rubber that just starts up the windshield pillar a couple of cm. I think you have them upside down or left to right. Will try to do a photo later if someone doesn't beat me to it.

Argh, I new it! Thanks for stopping me. Here is a (bad) pic of the bottom of the rubber. It had such a nice curve at the bottom that fit to the bottom of the door opening... My car didn't have anything here before, so this is all new to me. No real rush, I won't be working on the car in a while, but do need to "do it right" someday.

double crapola. I think I have the wrong ruber parts. -just went to the steele rubber site and saw this pic....The bottom of my gasket looks like the pic (curved and with a hole where a screw could go), but the top is shorter and does not come up far enough to the A pillar, or out from under the fender....Those things aint cheap either!

Thanks for the pics Hans. The parts I have are either wrong, or somehow didn't go through all the production steps. (Don't know if they are injection molded in 1 step or formed otherwise?)
Funny how the more the car comes together, the more it looks like it did when I started, just without the rust!
-I am able to rent half of my neighbors 2 car garage, so as soon as I can bring the packard the 250 kilometers here, I can get back to work!

Mike, the rubbers in the pic you posted of the Steele Door Rubbers look exactly like the ones I had sent to me by Steele for my '51.
Regarding the Steele rubbers - they are quite a bit different from the originals, and I couldn't get them to fit properly. Another fellow with a '51 had exactly the same problem. They are more bulky and the rubber is harder, so the door grabs the rubber and it folds over making it very difficult to close the door.Even when the door doesn't grab the rubber, you cannot close the door properly!
When you compare the original rubber to Steele's one they are different. The original (- on my '51) had three tabs and you secured it to the pillar with self-tappers. Steele's doesn't have this method, and I had to re-glue mine twice in an attempt to get it right, but I couldn't. Tried different ways, on both sides, but no luck.
I kept thinking the rubber should go under the fender but as Howard said, it doesn't. I ended up cutting quite a lot of rubber off my new ones so they would fit, and my friend had to do the same. Not easy to cut the rubber straight and neat either.
I think that you will find it is the only solution, unless your old rubbers are good enough to use again.
Like you say, they are expensive, and they should fit properly. This is another of several problems that i had with their rubber products.
I would raise the matter with Steele . . . it is not good enough that they sell so much stuff that just doesn't fit properly!
Maybe - just maybe - Steele has decided to distribute a different pattern because there were complaints about the ones they were selling. That could explain why what you were sent are different.

Anyone else wonder why there is that ogee curved metal formed at the upper door jam rather than following the fender edge shape? It looks very much like the door jam shape seen in 22nd-23rd Series bodies. Wonder if Briggs was recycling a bit of old tooling.......
