It would really be nice if the members of Congress who held the first two bailout hearings could read some of this post and get some really good insight into the car business, something they sorely need. There's been a lot more insightful thinking here than I ever heard there.

I in no way intended in my use of the word Jap for it to be derogatory. I have used this before, I have used it as an abbreviation for Japanese
I am sure that my late father wouldn't consider the word Jap or Nip derogatory or acceptable since they attacked the United States. Thus starting a WORLD WAR in which my father was wounded twice and nearly killed. Tell that to the dead soldiers that died from the DEATH MARCH on Bataan that using those two words is derogatory. The auto companies in Japan like Toyota and others helped fuel the Japanese war machine. I am not going to sit back and review my posts after I have typed them and try to make sure that they are politically correct. John F. Shireman

I believe the plan being circulated by the regime today is a controlled or soft bankruptcy. Is there such a thing?

Yes, but typically it requires all the major points like negotiated payments to suppliers, changes in labor contracts, debt restructuring, etc. to all be worked out in detail before the filing.

SOft bankruptcy?????
THis entire issue is an 11th hour GOP hammer lock to pressure UAW into steep concesions. Under the weak current UAW leadership my guess is at least a 90% chance that UAW WILL take steep cuts. At this point it's kind of a 4-way circle jerk between UAW, GM, DCX/Cerberus/Bush et-al and throw in GMAC. Note that GMAC is in the CERBERUS circle too. Strange isn't it, that F is suddenly so quiet????? And where is Kirk Kerkorian when GM needs him???? GUFAW
