Another description lifted from Post #5: "Concours at Victor Harbor. Because of approaching inclement weather the timing of the Concours was brought forward to an earlier start. Just as well, with judging able to be completed before the severe storm front moved in. Another ceremonial letter handover was also accomplished with the Mayor of Victor Harbor. About 11:00am the Concours wound up with the McCracken Country Club able to provide emergency undercover parking for all the soft tops on tour. The storm was rated as the worst in 50 years with the entire state of South Australia blacked out after a Power Station was hit by lightning and at least 6 23 transmission towers damaged. The ensuing blackout for us at McCracken lasted from Late afternoon to 1:30am the next morning, when my room lights came on! The McCracken Country Club swung into emergency mode providing a great barbecue dinner for the Rally under the adverse circumstances."

With the storm behind us, on Thursday we also left our Packards behind and it was off to Goolwa on the Cockle Train. Didn't really find anything to interest me, therefore not much in the way of photos. Note - Train is usually hauled by a steam loco but we had a Diesel.

Friday, was a Packard run to Strathalbyn and was meant to encompass a winery stop but because the ground was saturated the winery cancelled our visit. This gave us plenty of time to look around Strathalbyn, I think I visited 5 antique stores. On the return trip took the opportunity to visit the Goolwa Motor Museum which I missed the day before because it was too far out of town to walk to. A fair number of different cars there but the first car seen when stepping into the museum proper was, wait for it, a Packard! In remarkable condition for its 62 years was an original survivor '54 Packard Clipper.

Trip home was over 2 days opposed to the 3 day trip to the Rally. Originally was to take 3 days but floods at Forbes where we going to visit McFeeters Motor Museum changed our plans.

G'day Terry,
"HOW do you deal with electrical storms?" Answer - Very carefully. As for Wade, his talents are still much in demand and he continues to work on OFP's, Other Peoples Packards, to the detriment of work on The Fossil. In fact one of the cars he worked on was the '39 TJ Richards bodied Six Sedan seen in some of the photos. At the Concours in Victor Harbor we met two guys who also have TJR Packards and went and saw one of them before the storm hit that day.
