i didn't check it before i sent it to them either, so i cant say if it was like that before or done during repair. i dont think that piece was even removed during the repair for the following reasons. there was glass bead all in the pulley portion and when i removed the hub bolts...i could tell they had never been removed...especially the one that broke off.
the repair place is a mom and pop outfit, dale manufacturing. he actually stopped doing balancers to focus on the voilins, but then started the balancers again. the rubber portion is great...i just had to make the repair for the hub. he did my 55 without issue.

couple things.
1. can someone confirm that is a lifter i hear ticking in the video. 2. where the hell does this spring attach to on the frame. it is the spring that holds the throw out arm. where it is now it seems loose, but there is no other hole to put it in past that. it may just be that i haven't hooked up the clutch pedal to the arm so its not holding tension on the spring. i have a pic from ebay that shows the spring on another car....the spring looks different them mine as well. if you look at the car from ebay (last pic) the spring connects right under the master cylinder. mine goes to a hole past the hole under the master cylinder. once i get everything hooked up i may have to cut the spring shorter to mount better with some tension on it. showing where i mounted the triple gauge pod. while it seems idiotic to mount it on the passenger's side...i can actually see it better over there. used existing holes in dash and just wire tied it in place. easy peasy.

no bracket on the steering box on my car. i'm wondering if the spring is wrong for my car as well. there are two small holes in the frame...one under the master cylinder and one nearer the steering box. i have it in the one nearer the steering box right now.
i may clip the spring and shorten the long side and rebend the hook to connect to the frame. this will gather more tension. i'll wait to see if any other 37 owner has a good look at this spring before i clip it though. thanks for the info HH. that bracket is a pretty clever thing and maybe another option...i could make one. then again....could just be that i haven't hooked the clutch pedal up yet. still soaking the parts to get all the grease off them.

Henry, I agree with Wes, a valve noise. It sounds like it is one-half the engine speed which says valve noise to me. Should be easy enough to adjust with the fenders off of the car. Nice job, nothing like hearing an engine run after a rebuild. Congratulations!
(o[]o) The clutch return spring on my 115C is fastened to a hole in the frame near the steering box.

thanks for the ears guys! I plan to check all my gaps again, obviously one or more are a bit too wide.
hooked up the clutch tonight, which required some tlc. the holes in the linkage arm were wobbled out and the arms themselves were looking pretty sad. whipped out the welder and fixed it all up. I used washers with the cotter pins to take out more slop. I was also able to line up the alternator a bit better, not 100% perfect, but we will see how much it complains when I get the car really running. down draft tube and exhaust hanger mounted. exhaust will be getting replaced when the car gets rolling, its in sad shape.
