You have a 1937 Super Eight with a 320" engine, model 1500, 1501 or 1502 depending on wheelbase

Thanks for the confirmation fredkanter. That information should get me insured. Once I have received my title back I can pursue corrections. Still says 38' model 160. When I saw sooo many versions made; touring sedans, formal sedans, and so on and so on. Maybe 20 choices or more. That confused me. Please forgive my ignorance on these cars. So with this information now what do I consider my body type? That has a 4 digit code? And does that then tell me what version of the super eight I have?

Under model info it says the model type is added to production number. Can anybody explain how my number breaks down by this method? Maybe I'm a dummy but I don't understand it. Again it's 401170. Again thanks for all the patience here!

Brian,
I'd suggest some photos of the Packard itself would be helpful in identification, including side, front, rear, quarter views and interior including instrument panel. The 401170 number was previously identified as the engine number so is not a body number as such.

Also one other after thought. Might mine actually be an early 38 model built with a leftover engine from 37 making it show on the registry as a 37? I certainly do question how and why my title says 38. After all my understanding is that these were hand built( correct me if I'm wrong). I suppose that wouldn't correspond with the 38 model having only an ID decal opposed to my aluminum plate? Any thoughts on that subject also appreciated

I'm sure it won't be very helpful but at the moment all I have until I do a little automobile archaeology. It was an old photo from when my father bought the car around 1999. Immediately went in the garage and now here we are

That's not a 37, it's a 38 super 8 with a 37 engine.

Hi
Improved your photos which may help. Your Packard is definitely a 1938 model. If it has a 127in wb, then its a 1603 touring sedan Body No. 1103. If its wb is 134in, its a 1604 touring sedan Body No. 1113. If its wb is 139in, its a 1605 touring sedan Body No. 1114. Either way, you've got yourself one great Packard! Welcome to the Forum, please start a project blog to document its revival. Steve Added an enhanced photo of the Rebuilt plate late this same day.
