6 bolts, top of case.
Personally, I remove the transmission before pulling the engine...leave the top on, block under engine, 4 bolts to bellhousing, 4 bolts to side tranny mounts, 1 bolt top ground strap, 1 bolt stabilizer, one speedo cable connection. 4 bolts at each end of driveshaft/U-joints - remove driveshaft. slide transmission back and out...I pull it up through the floor. Can drop it down if you are up on a lift... Everybody agree?

removed trans before i removed motor on mine.
trans was on it when i put motor back in. top of trans was covered with cardboard bolted down to keep dirt out. then top of trans back on when motor was in.

I sacrificed the slotted machine screws instead. I lopped off their heads with my trusty die grinder and had a bucket of water and a towel standing by for the fire that never happened.
