I like Castrol HD it still has Zinc.
I have used it in all of my rebuilds, from 33, 34, 37, 39, 40, 47 and 49. I stock it because I'm not sure how much longer it will be available.

I have a 39 320 which is virtually the same engine as yours for all intent and purpose. I am running Chevron Delo 400 15 - 40 multi-grade. This is similar to the Shell Rotella O_D mentioned. They are both oils formulated for use in diesel engines and have additive packages a bit more conducive to our older engines.
The concern is the modern oils formulated for gasoline engines have a lacking additive package due to modern pollution requirements. Best of luck, Jim

In the last years a have used a single grade 40 oil on my 1929 Packard`s, but a friend of mine has also recommended a sinlge grade 30. I have checked the web-pages from Shell, but I didn`t find the type "Formula Shell" eighter as a former or today available oil. I`m hoping you can check once the type of Shell.
Best regards, Odd Moen Norway

I am using 15W-40 Classic Car Motor Oil in my 1937 Six Convertible Coupe and 1947 Clipper Custom. It is made by D-A Lubricant Company, Inc. and sold through the Indiana Region of the Classic Car Club of America. I like it for the multiple viscosity and zinc content features. It has worked well for me, and I recommend it.
