Went to a local Cruise night just up the street from my house.
I was boxed in by GM products!

I think a question might be with a packed clutch how much will the plates expand and once the trans heats up, if there is not enough clearance could that expansion be enough to cause the clutch to engage or burn the plates.

Ross recommended a 16th of an inch between the stack and the cover plate. With an extra plate and fiber, the fit was too tight for me.

The un-obtainium I bought at Hershey (sight-unseen) just arrived.
I never knew there was a set of resistor coils and a relay that went along with the A/C dash pod. I guess the original blower motors were not two speed, and they used the resistor coils for "low" speed. The middle one switch is almost like a radio knob. It has some has more wire than I would have expected, and an odd electrical contraption I haven't had time to figure out yet.

That contraption is an old style relay that can be pulled in by very low current. The temp control in the original system was quite interesting.
The middle knob in addition to turning on the main current relay and the system also turned a rheostat which in turn worked a heater element around the bulb of a glass mercury column thermostat. If more cooling or a lower termp was desired, turning the knob allowed more current to the element and more heat was applied to the mercury bulb. Because of the heating it took more time for the cold air blowing on the bulb to move the mercury column so more cooling. When it did move, the mercury worked a very low current contact inside the glass and controlled that odd relay to close or open the bypass solenoid valve. With the valve opened the refrigerant was short circuited and no longer reached the evaporator stopping the cooling. When the relay controlled the valve it also controlled the current to the heating element so eventually things reached equilibrium, the bypass valve closed and the cooling cycle started again. Cadillac had the same thermostat in 53 but they later changed to a safer and more conventional thermostat with a capillary sensing tube and contacts. It was still heated to control the temp but the heating element was wrapped around the capillary tube instead of glass.

Good find! I could use one too, especially with the senior-style knobs that this has. Very interesting thermostatic arrangement too.

From what I understand, even on the Clippers, the A/C pod used Senior knobs.

I didn't realize that but I see you're right as the parts book does not differentiate either.
