1940 120 Front End Tapered pins

Am having a hard time removing the tapered pins holding the king pin and the Lower control arm shaft pin.

I know they should be easier to get out than the time I am presently having getting them out.

Are there replacement pins available without getting the whole kit?

I have taken them out a long time ago and didn't have any issues. Maybe a little heat on the castings???

thank you

Fred D

No special advice on removing them, just be sure you're driving them from the small end. But you can reuse the pins, just upset (distress) the surface first by stipling or a similar technique and perhaps apply some Locktite.

On my car (1940), they come out from the front on one side, and the rear on the other side. You might want to take a look at my resto blog linked below. One of my "how to's" is king pin replacement.

....they come out from the front on one side, and the rear on the other side.

Right up thru 1956 the left and right spindles were identical (same P/N), that's why the pin goes in from the front on one side and the rear on the other.

Thank you, my think process put more into it than necessary.

I appreciate all of the assistance. I will be referencing the blog many times in the future.

Another question if you can.

Does master cylinder get painted black to match the chassis or is it a cast blast finish?

Do any of the suppliers have the domed shape tie rod ends.

I don't have a definitive answer for you regarding the color of the master cylinder.

I'm about 99.99% confident that OEM master and wheel cylinders were not painted but left in an "as cast" appearance.
