Some time in the cars life someone changed the engine to a 1953 327 with a Carter WCFB 4-Barrel Carburetor Carb on with a manual choke.

More horsepower, I'm thinking 180 hp verse the 138hp (288 c.i.), plus more torque too....

When I drop the transmission pan to do the gasket. Should i clean the filter screen or replace it?

If it's damaged, replace it. Otherwise just clean it.

when I was under my car the engine and transmission are a light blue color is that right.

Looks like she has done some serious off-roading. Might want to bang that pan out a bit whilst you have it off. During the loooong period when these were cheap used cars they saw some rough service.
