Thank you guys for the information. The folks and information here have been invaluable to me in purchasing and keeping my Packard on the road. I just made a 300 mile round trip to a Florida Packard meet. We made it home to the gas station but the regulator had quit and we were operating on just battery power. I have another regulator but am strongly considering the electronic regulator.

Regarding the clover electronic voltage regulator... I have only 1 year of service on it, but it has so far been very good. When installing, I had to trim 1/4 inch off the top of the backing plate so it would fit on the firewall. That was not much trouble though. I have a voltage gauge in my car, and can see at idle voltage drops to 12.5 which is normal for a generator. At any rpm above idle, it stays very constant at 14v which is just right. The builder of these things can adjust voltage depending on if you are using a dry or wet cell battery. I also emailed him with a question before cutting the backing plate, and got a quick response. I'm happy with it.

Have all the lights working, headlights, taillights and turn signals. If you have to work on '49 to '56 turn signals, the attached wiring diagram is valuable! Got it from HH56 a while bacck.

Finished all the light wiring and moved on to finishing the installation of the front end parts. This included the radiator shroud, bumper pan and front bumper and guards. Would have added the hood for the photo but had no help and lifting the hood is definitely a two-person job!

Sure looking good. Have you had it running long enough to get a good feel for how the replacement gas sender operation will be?

Ernie,

It's getting pretty hot here as it certainly has in your area. I have the Port-A-Cool going but due to the humidity, it doesn't work nearly as well as it would in AZ!

Howard,

The gas tank is still dry so I haven't had a chance to test the fuel gauge. I'm going to leave it that way until I get a little further along.

Joe

I decided to completely upholster my trunk primarily to cover the rust repair and the exposed sound deadener. Also to cover the holes in the trunk lid that also show the sound deadener. Four individual panels were cut for the trunk lid and covered with un-backed carpet. I had planned on using Velcro to hold the panels in place but worried the the glue would loosen with the heat. I came across a product called "Mag Daddy" that makes a series of magnetic fasteners. I've used some of their products to hold wire harnesses in place rather than using metal clamps. They also make a magnetic fastener with a 1"X 2" plastic base. I used these to attach the 4 trunk lid panels. Worked great! More detail on the PAC forum.
