Above PACK, it looks like AOS. If so, that would A.O. Smith in Milwaukee.
What year is the frame?

If you look thru some of the pages of Cli55er's 55 project blog where his work on the frame is covered there is an almost complete marking that shows the information that was stenciled on 55 frames. I would imagine all years that used frames made by A. O. Smith probably had a similar look and info.

A. O. Smith's participation in the automotive frame business dates back to about 1900 and was supplying Packard with frames at least as far back as the 6th Series and perhaps much further back.

Directly above the "1803" is stenciled "39".
My car is an early 1940 , so one would assume that the frame was fab'ed in 1939. Thanks for A.O. Smith info........I was not aware of the association

Is there any reason to keep the markings intact?
I'm in the process of having the frame sandblasted so is there any reason to protect the markings?

Depends on your attitude towards preserving historical detail.

Thanks Dave,
You answered my question................... I'll mask it off during the sandblasting process.

Another option might be to take some good photos for placement and look etc. Have a stencil made to complete the missing info. Reapply the marking after the frame is done with just a bit of age added. I believe that is what Henry did on his 55.

Howard's suggestion is certainly an option, but in no way is it preserving original detail.
